“Crafts make us feel rooted, give us a sense of belonging and connect us with our history”.
Chances are if you were born in a Punjabi household, your afternoon siesta was incomplete without a khes, a requisite used as a coverlet while sleeping. The handwoven checkered khes have given way for quilts! Elaborately woven nalas or drawstrings are slowly fading! Attempts are being made to revive Phulkari! Why are we forgetting our crafts? Have we become brand-conscious and handmade products don’t fancy us anymore?
We bring together a diverse group of speakers who are rallying in their own ways to revive Punjab’s many forgotten arts and crafts. Their distinct voices and perspectives will help us all think about the problem of dying crafts and their solutions.
